For centuries, vegetable oils have been used to improve the health of skin and hair. These oils are obtained from a first cold pressing of seeds and nuts. In this way, the oils retain all their essential fatty acids, vitamins and anti-oxidants. Above all, the fatty acids (omega 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9) are crucial for keeping the skin supple and young. They hydrate and nourish the skin and are especially suitable for dry, sensitive and (sun) damaged skin. So let’s take a quick look at the world of these little natural treasures and discover how they can enrich your daily beauty routine.

Jujuba, liquid wax without an oily film
Jujuba oil is a light yellow, thin ‘oil’ (in fact, it is a liquid wax) obtained from the seeds of the jujuba shrub, which grows in desert landscapes. The oil strongly resembles sebum and, as a result, is easily absorbed by the skin. What’s more, it does not leave behind an oily film and the moisture level in the skin remains stable. At the same time, the skin becomes smoother, more hydrated and better regulated. Moreover, jujuba oil also protects your skin against external influences, thanks to its high levels of anti-oxidants and vitamin E.

Ricinus, a miracle oil for optimal hydration
Ricinus oil is a light yellow and viscous oil obtained from the beans of ricinus tree, which is also known as the miracle tree. This tree originated in Africa, but is now found in tropical areas all around the world. The oil is often referred to as castor oil and is highly rich (up to 90%) in the glycerides of ricinoleic acid (ω9). Because of its high viscosity, ricinus oil has soothing and hydrating properties that are beneficial for skin, as well as being an excellent lubricant that keeps skin supple. Ricinus oil can also be used as a hair and eyelash oil, to add extra fullness and strength. Last but not least, the oil is also suitable for strengthening nails and treating dry cuticles.

Argan, the anti-ageing oil from Morocco
Argan oil, which is also known as Moroccan gold, is an ideal anti-ageing oil. Its regenerative, revitalising and hydrating properties make it extremely suitable for more mature and very dry skin. The oil restores the skin’s smoothness, elasticity and firmness. The fatty acids (oleic and linoleic acids), anti-oxidants and vitamin E in argan protect and nourish the skin, so that the deepness of wrinkles is reduced and unsightly pigmentation spots fade. What’s more, this oil can also improve your hair and nails, restoring their natural sheen and strength.

Sweet almond, delicate care for all skin types
Sweet almond is probably the most well-known of all the skin oils. It is certainly a ‘must-have’ among your daily care products. This thin, light yellow oil is derived from the nuts of the almond tree. Thanks to its soothing properties, it is suitable for use on all types of skin, but is particularly beneficial for dry skin. The oil regulates the skin’s moisture levels and reduces skin irritations. Sweet almond oil is also recommended for the skin care of pregnant mothers (stretch marks) and newborn infants.

Black cumin oil, a herbal oil for sensitive skin
Black cumin oil is a herbally fragrant, dark yellow to light brown oil that is derived from the tiny seeds of black cumin plants grown in Egypt. Contrary to what the name suggests, the black cumin (Nigella sativa) has no connection with ‘ordinary’ cumin (Cuminum cyminum). Black cumin oil is a nutritious, regulating and restorative oil, which is above all suitable for sensitive and easily irritated skin. Its remarkable composition enables it to soothe redness, sunburn and chapped or cracked skin. Thanks to the presence of anti-oxidants, it can also be used as an anti-ageing product.
Black cumin oil also has a number of beneficial uses if taken internally. For this reason, we have introduced a new product to our range: black cumin oil capsules. Physalis Black Cumin contains 750 mg of high quality and organically obtained black cumin oil. Amongst other things, this oil contains thymoquinone, essential oils, sterols and alkaloids. The essential fatty acids in question are omega-6 (linoleic acid) and omega-9 (oleic acid). The high concentrations of these acids, together with significant amounts of anti-oxidants, such as vitamin E, make this oil highly beneficial. Black cumin contributes towards the maintenance of a normal blood sugar level, supports the immune system, has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, reduces tiredness, stress and depression and helps you to sleep better.
In addition to these five vegetable oils, there are many other Physalis products with specific beneficial properties. Would you like to know more about our range?
