Quality labels
For the development of its products Physalis opts for the use of exclusively natural – and, where required, certified organic, vegan or MSC-components. We do our best to ensure that our products carry the labels shown below.
EU-Bio label
The principle behind organic agriculture and cultivation is that the natural cycle should be respected as far as is practicably possible.
Organic products are grown in open and fertile soil without the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides, GMOs or growth hormones. As a result, the crops concerned grow slower, but in a more natural manner. This is good for public health, for the ground water supply, for the soil and for biodiversity. Thanks to more efficient techniques, organic agriculture and cultivation require 20% less energy than classic methods of production and emit 30% fewer greenhouse gases.
The term 'organic' is legally protected throughout Europe. A product can only carry the EU-Bio label on condition that the entire chain – from farmer to shop – is checked and certificated. Concern about food safety (and the health risks associated with it), animal welfare and our ecological footprint all mean that the demand for organic food continues to increase.
Clean label
Physalis nutritional supplements with a Clean Label only contain natural products.
These are listed in a clear and unambiguous manner on the packaging. The products are also free from all artificial colorants, preservatives and flavourings, added sugars, salt, yeast and gluten.
Physalis nutritional supplements are well known for their exclusive composition based on standardised plant extracts, high-grade vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, essential oils and other innovative active ingredients.
With the Clean Label, Physalis wants to respond the desire of consumers for healthy and naturally prepared products.
Ecogarantie
Ecogarantie is a Belgian label for ecological products. It guarantees production in an ecologically friendly manner and ensures that (some of) the ingredients come from organic agriculture.
The label is firmly anchored in European legislation. The vegetable and animal components contained in the products that carry the label must originate from organic agriculture. During the production process only a limited number of additives and techniques can be used. Nano-materials are forbidden.
The label imposes strict norms for the biodegradability of products and toxicity for aquatic life. There are also a number of conditions relating to ecological packaging. Companies granted the label are further obliged to work with green energy and there are strong prohibitions for the use of harmful substances and production processes. Last but not least, there is a ban on GMOs.
MSC quality label
The MSC quality label certifies the use of sustainable fishing.
MSC is a worldwide organisation that collaborates with fishermen, the fish processing and fish selling industries, nature and environmental organisations and ordinary consumers to promote the most environmentally friendly options for fish, fishing and fish production.
Friend of the Sea — FOS
Friend of the sea is the leading certification standard for products and services which respect and protect the marine environment. In this way, fish populations are protected and fish stocks are safeguarded for the future.
It is a project of the World Sustainability Organization, an international NGO whose mission is to promote environmental conservation.
Friend of the Earth — FOE
Friend of the Earth is a trendsetting certification norm for products and services that respect sustainable agriculture and livestock farming. By prohibiting the use of harmful substances and by adopting a responsible approach to waste and energy management, the ecosystem, wild species of fauna and flora, the soil and sources of water all remain protected.
It is a project of the World Sustainability Organization, an international NGO whose mission is to promote environmental conservation.
